1. BC Hydro’s Home Renovation Rebate

‘Minimum heat pump requirements:
HSPF ≥ 10 & SEER ≥ 16 (if product is tested under HSPF/SEER).
HSPF2 ≥8.5 & SEER2 ≥15.2 (if product is tested under new HSPF2/SEER2 standard).

Eligible for up to $7,000 for heat pump installation:
Up to $2,000 from BC Hydro.
Up to $5,000 from federal gov.’s Canada Greener Homes Grant.

Heat pump rebate options (by heat pump type):
$1,000 — Ductless mini-split heat pump (serves one zone).
$1,000 — Ductless mult-split heat pump (serves multiple zones).
$2,000 — Central ducted heat pump (serves multiple zones).

Benefits for customers:
1. Can combine with the Canada Greener Homes Grant to increase rebate amount up to $5,000 greater (note that both grants have their own eligibilities and applicants MUST be eligible for both to combine).
2. Rebates can be bundled if multiple installations are performed, with a possible $2,000 additional bonus.

2. BC Hydro’s Home Renovation Rebate (fuel switching)

‘Minimum heat pump requirements:
HSPF ≥ 10 & SEER ≥ 16 (if product is tested under HSPF/SEER).
HSPF2 ≥8.5 & SEER2 ≥15.2 (if product is tested under new HSPF2/SEER2 standard).

Elligible for up to $11,000 for heat pump installation IF currently heated by natural gas, oil, or propane:
$3,000 rebate top-up from BC Hydro.
$3,000 from CleanBC’s existing rebate.
$5,000 additional from Canada Greener Homes Grant.

Rebate by heat pump type:
Ductles mini-split ($6,000 total):
CleanBC Rebate: up to $3,000.
BC Hydro top-up, up to $3000.

Ductless multi-split heat pump ($10,000 total):
CleanBC rebate: up to $3,000.
BC Hydro top-up: up to $3,000.
Canada Greener Homes grant: up to $4,000.

Central ducted heat pump ($11,000 total):
CleanBC rebate: up to $3,000.
BC Hydro top-up: up to $3,000.
Canada Greener Homes grant: up to $5,000.

*homes in Northern BC are eligible for an additional $3,000.

Benefits for customers:
1. Allows customers with homes currently heated by natural gas, oil, or propane to acquire additional benefits for their upgrade; greater incentive for those with homes that rely on these resources to conduct the upgrade.
2. Can combine with other rebates.

3. Federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Grant

Prove that property is primary residence.
Only one homeowner per residence.

$5,000 for installation.

Air source heat pump & cold climate air source heat pump:
$2,500 for ENERGY STAR certified ASHP (mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 2 warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).
$2,500 for ccASHP (mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 2 warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).
$4,000 for ENERGY STAR certified ASHP (central ducted system or mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 3 or more warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).
$5,000 for ccASHP (central ducted system or mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 3 or more warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).

Heat pump water heaters:
$1,000 for replacing domestic water heater with an ENERGY STAR certified domestic heat pump water heater (HPWH).

Benefits for customers:
1. Can combine with BC Hydro’s rebates (eligibility dependent).
2. Access to $600 as a max. contribution towards the total cost of your pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuid evaluations.
3. Interest-free loans of up to $40,000, with repayment term of 10 years to help you undertake major home retrofits.

4. CleanBC’s Heat Pump Rebate

‘General rebate options:
$6,000 for switching from natural gas, propane, or oil to a heat pump (plus minicipal top-ups, where applicable).
$2,000 for upgrading electric or wood heating system to a heat pump.

Rebate amount (by heat pump type, all requirements on respective heat pump pages):
Up to $9,000 for ductless mini- or multi-split.
Up to $6,000 for dual fuel ducted.
Up to $9,000 for central ducted.
Up to $6,000 for air-to-water.

Heat pump top-up in City of Vancouver:
$4,000 top-up for homeowners that remove their fossil fuel (oil, natural gas, propane) space heating system and install an all-electric Tier 2 heat pump system (all 4 types and/or combination of space and water heat pump).

Benefits for customers:
1. Can stack rebate application with other BC rebates (so long as elligible).
2. This program offers air-to-water heat pump rebates, whereas others do not.
3. Step-by-step guide available on CleanBC’s site.
4. Advice for finding a contractor, as well as a ontractor finder tool, available on site.
5. Additional $2,000 top-up available specifically for North Vancouver residents.
6. Additional top-ups available based on municipality.
7. Additional $500 or $1,500 top-up for electric service upgrade.

FortisBC’s Heat Pump Rebate

‘General eligibility:
A residential FortisBC natural gas account (except for strata) or a residential FortisBC or minicipal electricity account of Grand Forks, Pentiction, Summerland, or Nelson Hydro.
Application must be submitted within 6 months of the paid invoice date.
Rebate cannot exceed paid cost o the invoice.
Only one rbat per home for a primary space heating system and a water heater (types of eligiible properties listed on site).

Minimum heat pump requirements:
HSPF ≥ 10 & SEER ≥ 16 (if product is tested under HSPF/SEER).
HSPF2 ≥8.5 & SEER2 ≥15.2 (if product is tested under new HSPF2/SEER2 standard).

Rebate amount (by heat pump type):
$1,200 for air source heat pump, ductless mini-split .
$2,000 for air source heat pump, ductless multi-split (multiple heads).
$1,200 for air source heat pump, central ducted (tier 1).
$2,000 for air source heat pump, central ducted (tier 2).
$300 two-upgrade bonus.

Benefits for customers:
1. Additional rebate funds granted for multiple upgrades.
2. Optional eligibility for additional rebates specifically for energy efficiency upgrades (through BC Hydro).

Alberta

1. Federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Grant

General eligibility:
Canadian citizen and home owner (with proof of property ownership).
Prove that property is primary residence.
Only one homeowner per residence.

Rebate amount (by type of heat pump):

$5,000 for installation.

Saskatchewan

1. Federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Grant

General eligibility:
Canadian citizen and home owner (with proof of property ownership).
Prove that property is primary residence.
Only one homeowner per residence.

Rebate amount (by type of heat pump):
Ground source heat pump:
$5,000 for installation.
$3,000 for replacement.

Air source heat pump & cold climate air source heat pump:
$2,500 for ENERGY STAR certified ASHP (mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 2 warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).

2. Home Renovation Tax Credit

*Note, this rebate is applicable ONLY to heat pumps used for swimming pools.

Rebate eligibility:
Homeowners who have renovated their principal residence.
Renovation expenses must be incurred betwen October 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022.
Home must be resided in during renovation, and all current or former spouses or common-law partners (and/or all children from all relations) can claim.

Rebate claim starting at $1,000 and up to (by tax year):
$12,000 for the 2021 tax year.
$12,000 for the 2022 tax year.

Benefits for customers:
1. Rebate has several qualifications that upgrades can fall under, so many opportunities for claims (including heat pump).
2. Claim can be split amongst family member as the rebate is family-based (total amount claimed cannot exceed maximum).
3. Shared principal residence can each make their own claim, or can claim if not a permanent resident but share the capital stock of a co-operative housing corporation.

3. SaskEnergy’s Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate

Minimum rebate requiements:
Equipment must be installed by a participating SaskEnegy Network Member.
Only for replacement of existing equipment in residential homes.
Must be a askEnergy Residential Customer.
Property located in Saskatchewan.

Eligible equipment for rebates:
$100 for Heat Recovery Ventilator (ENERGY STAR certified).
$1,000 for Tankless Water Heater (ENERGY STAR certified).
$1,000 for Condensing Water Heater (ENERGY STAR certified).
$250 for Tank Water Heater (ENERGY STAR certified).

Benefits for customers:
1. Rebate issued wthin 6–8 weeks.
2. Encourages homeowners to choose the most energy efficieny equipment.
3. Replacing equipment can help with lowering your energy bill, increasing comfort, nd rducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Manitoba

General eligibility:
Canadian citizen and home owner (with proof of property ownership).
Prove that property is primary residence.
Only one homeowner per residence.

Rebate amount (by type of heat pump):
Ground source heat pump:
$5,000 for installation.
$3,000 for replacement.

Air source heat pump & cold climate air source heat pump:
$2,500 for ENERGY STAR certified ASHP (mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 2 warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).
$2,500 for ccASHP (mini- or multi-split ducted or ductless system, 2 warm air supply outlets or indoor heads).

2. Efficiency Manitoba’s Heat Pump Program

Air Source Heat Pumps:
$1.65 per square foot rebate.

Ground Source Heat Pumps:
$2.50 per square foot rebate.

Benefits for customers:
1. Reduces electrical heating costs (up to 30% air source and 60% ground source, respectively).
2. Provides heating and cooling.
3. Easy to install (according to Efficiency Manitoba’s website).
4. Ideal for large lots and open spaces, providing a low carbon heating solution.

3. Manitoba Hydro’s Home Energy Efficiency Loan

While not a rebate, Manitoba Hydro offers a residential loan under their Home Energy Efficiency loan. The loan provides $20,000 for geothermal heat pumps/Solar photovoltaic systems, with a maximum term of 15 years.

Manitoba Hydro does not offer any rebates, unlike their BC equivalent.

Ontario

2.Enbridge Gas’s Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+)

Eligible homes:
Enbridge Gas customers who own or live as their home’s primary resident.
Enbridge Gas customers with tenants (landlord-owned).
Non-Enbridge Gas customers.
Off-grid communities (not currently connected to North American electrical grid nor to the piped natural gas network).
Multi-residential buildings.

Non-eligible homes:
Not owner’s primary residence nor Enbridge Gas member
Cooperatives.
Homes built less than 6 months ago.
Mixed-use buildings that are less than 50% residential.
Multi-unit residential homes with more than 3 storeys.

Heat pump rebate:
Up to $7,800 for ENERGY STAR certified hot wa heat pumps; ground source, air source, and domestic hot water heat pumps qualify.
Additional rebate breakdown is the same as the Greener Home’s Grant (as shown above).

Benefits for customers:
1. Partnership with the federal government’s Canada’s Greener Homes Grant, with additional offers specifically for Ontario citizens.
2. Can combine rebates from HER+ with the Greener Home’s Grant.
3. Can get a rebate worth $600 for EnerGuide home energy evaluation.
4. Rebate covers multiple upgrades along with heat pumps, with a possible increase of +$10,000.
5. Overall helps save money on energy bills as heat pumps take less energy to operate.

3. City of Toronto’s Home Energy Loan Program

While not a rebate, benefits Toronto customers looking to upgrade to a heat pump as it provides an up to $125,000 loan toawrds air-source heat pump upgrades/installations.
