Custom Shop Apprentice

Position Summary

The Custom Shop Apprentice will prepare and fabricate high-quality metal products and components; as well as read and interpret shop drawings/blueprints and perform quality checks on finished products. They will also perform all duties in a timely and orderly fashion to the best of their abilities and with the utmost due care, integrity and professionalism.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate sub-assemblies and assemblies based on work procedures and shop drawings
  • Fabricate components parts and structures then assemble into a completed unit
  • Examine and interpret blueprints and manufacturing schematics to ensure components and products are being assemble correctly
  • Work closely with the Custom Shop Supervisor to ensure a thorough understanding of the company’s steel requirements
  • Verify conformance of workpiece to specifications, using square, rulers, and/ or measuring tape
  • Operate heavy & light machinery such as: drills, welding machines, various saws, press brakes, shears, cutting torches, grinders, plasma torch
  • Comply with safety procedures & protocols; as well as ensure working environment is clean and safe
  • Report any maintenance requirements, accidents, incidents, and near-misses immediately to the Custom Shop Supervisor, or designate
  • Participate in annual inventory count

Due to the dynamic nature of this Company, the duties and responsibilities may reasonably change from time to time.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of sheet metal apprentice experience
  • Post-secondary education degree is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blue-print drawings
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50lb
  • Must be able to take initiative, work independently as well as in a team
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
